Scope:

• Overall: upgrading of Dedza's urban centre with public service and traffic infrastructure

• Programme: civic offices, community hall, bus station, markets, slaughter house, truck stop, pedestrian zone, roads, plot allocation in traditional housing areas, furniture (made in Dedza)

 

Energy efficiency measures:

Passive:

• Thermal mass (locally produced earth bricks) to balance internal temperature

• Natural cross-ventilation in all offices (manual control) and community hall (permanent)

• Ventilated roofs in the offices and community hall

• Vegetation in the courtyards allow for evaporative cooling
